Men of the world! Why should breasts get all the attention for cancer awareness? Is that fair? So what are we going to do about it? No, I’m not asking you to run some great distance or walk in your wife’s high heels (who the heck thought of that one?). I am asking you simply to abstain from shaving that annoying spot under your nose for thirty days. Can you do that? I thought so! So get out there and grow a Mo!
It’s Movember and time to make a difference. Wives, girlfriends and mothers may see it as a huge excuse for men to look ridiculous (as if we need a reason), but this is a real movement for a great cause.
So what is Movember?
Since 2004, the Movember Foundation charity has run Movember events to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and depression. Originating in Australia and New Zealand, Canada joined the global movement in 2007.
It has spread from Australia to South Africa, Europe and North America. As of 2011 Canadians were the largest contributors to the Movember charities of any nation. Go Canada!
By committing is to grow a moustache for the month of November, the hope is to raise vital awareness and funds for prostate cancer and male mental health.
To highlight the importance of what the smartest men are doing, take a look at these statistics:
• 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
• This year 26,500 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed
• 1 in 5 men will experience a mental illness this year
